The Spuds kicked off 2058 on a very positive note winning 2 3-game series, going 4-2 in Sim #1 (recap). Of course, it's hard to judge the strength of any team in the early going but winning 2 of 3 will get the job done. There were a lot of runs flying around as pitchers find their footing so the Spuds had some position players with gaudy production.

SPUDS OF THE SIM - SIM #1

Pitcher
Image
P Waseem bin Suhayb
3 G, 8.0 IP, 2.25 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, +0.1 WAR
Opening day starter Jeremy Nickerson had a solid outing in Mexico City but stumbled in his 2nd start. Logan Hill did excellent work in relief and that's always nice to see from him. But we'll go with bin Suhayb who made 3 appearances and allowed just 2 runs in 8 innings and fanned 4 hitters.

Batter

2B Marcello Custello
6 G, 19 AB, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, .368/.478/.684, 1 SB, +0.3 WAR
As mentioned above, there were a lot of solid offensive numbers in Sim #1. 1B Bastião Fardos had a 4-for-6 day in Mexico City with 3 runs and 5 RBI, while DH Alfonso Rúbio was 3-for-5 in the same game with 4 RBI. But we'll go with Custello who delivered a double, triple, and a walkoff HR while bagging his first swiped base of the season.

Sim #1: P Waseem bin Suhayb, 2B Marcello Custello
