At the end of the year, the Oysters had 2 players with options and 1 player with a team option.
Chris Thompson declined his player option and it's easy to see why. The 32 year pitched a career year going 16-6 and 3.07 ERA. He also pitched to a 3.15 ERA at home, a park that leans heavy in favor of the hitters. This was Thompson's best season as an Oyster and he'll head to free agency looking to cash in.
Ramón González decided not to opt out of his remaining deal, leaving the team on the hook for $9.5M in 2058 with 2 player options afterward also at $9.5M each. Coming over in a trade with Calgary, his first year in Rocky Mountain was not good. A 5.54 ERA won't get it done for a team trying to contend. HIs track record suggests he won't provide much more value and the Oysters can only hope he catches lightning in a bottle and can pitch like he did in 2054 with hopes that will persuade him to decline one of this player options. Expect him to be moved for salary relief if they manage to pull off a high profile trade this offseason.
The team picked up their option Michael Dixon. HIs overall numbers weren't great, but his 3.09 FIP suggests his 4.53 ERA may of been caused by some bad luck. He was much better on the road which isn't great, but at $3.5M, he was worth keeping around in the bullpen. He does hold a vesting option for 2059 at $3.6M, but you'd think the team doesn't have much intention of manipulating that.
Also of note, Ralph Sanders, Jeff Doane, and Fred Taylor were all non-tendered. They combined for -0.4 WAR.

Ramón Gonzalez has had a befuddling career. You’d think those ratings would make him a hammer out of the bullpen at the very least, but instead his best success has been as a mid-rotation starter.

Agreed. Not really sure what my plan is for him yet.BaseClogger wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 9:30 pmRamón Gonzalez has had a befuddling career. You’d think those ratings would make him a hammer out of the bullpen at the very least, but instead his best success has been as a mid-rotation starter.
