2057-00005: Talons Present Another Low Effort Team News Where The Team "Announces Their Opening Day Roster" Or Something

Post by jiminyhopkins » Sat Nov 18, 2023 6:42 pm

Phoenix, AZ--

The Talons open up at San Antonio Sunday night. So here is the Opening Day Roster, in case you were wondering, or in case any potential Team Previewers out there want a cheat sheet.

ROTATION
SP Damian Theophanous
SP Jaypee Estancia
SP Slobodan Omeragic
SP Nick Rivers
SP Lucas Rose
Yay, a rotation of #3 and #4 starters. The loss of Lucas Wood as a budget casualty (his $9+ mil arb value was non-tendered) looms large here. Another Lucas, namely Rose, was the return for the Zalapa trade last year.

BULLPEN
RP Rob Scott
RP Neil Davies
RP Brick Pollitt
RP Jim Thompson
RP Jeff Locke
SP/RP Angel Villanueva
RP Jodie Hanna
CL Josh Dougherty
Dougherty could be one of the better conversions in BBA history, with his new 19/7/7 ratings. Hanna makes the team due to being out of options, with the Talons afraid to lose her through waivers. Otherwise the bullpen is mostly your basic 50 POT reliever types, nothing special.

CATCHER
C Roelof Klooster
C Carl Matthews
The Talons brought in veteran Klooster mainly because they were salty that they had to give him up in 2038. Matthews is a decent backup who was selected in the Rule V draft.

INFIELD
1B Jorge Pena
1B Kent Landry
2B Angel Zalapa
2B Ian Patrick Anderson
SS Luis Pena
SS Jose Mendez
3B Don Perez
Zalapa is back, and Jorge Pena takes over at 1B, platooning with longtime backup Landry. Perez was lowkey pretty good at third last year, so the Talons picked up his team option. IPA just kinda hangs around.

OUTFIELD/DH
COF Joo-il Paek
LF Andrew Wright
CF Jyri Kulmala
OF Antonio Bagwell
DH Your Mom
Mother is a full time DH this year, as scouts will be watching to see if the new downgraded ratings will stick. Bagwell is a stopgap measure in RF, reportedly the club has several offers out for a more permanent option there. Kulmala and his 10 defense in CF aren't going anywhere.

INURED LIST
RF Ted Benson
This was the only major ST injury for the Talons, and he's out until August. The club will miss his 30 HR power.

FINAL CUTS:
LF Michael O'Halloran
RF Feng-yi Fung
C Justin Bonfield
O'Hallorhan and Fung are power hitting prospects who haven't peaked yet. Bonfield is a good backup that has to burn an option year due to rule V pick Matthews having to remain on the ML roster.
