2035-28: New allegations surface about Talons GM

In the BBA, there are many types of GM's. Some are veterans, some are newer. Some like to trade, others build from within. There are GM's in the Brewster who like to write 200 articles per season, and others who barely make the minimums. But what is happening in Phoenix might be unprecedented.

In Sunday's edition of the venerable Phoenix Sun Times Post Dispatch ("One of Phoenix's Great Newspapers"), an investigative story was on the front page of the Sports section. In this bombshell, it was revealed that the General Manager of the Phoenix Talons, Sean Marko, has actually been moonlighting as a process operator at a midwestern oil refinery for the past 10 years. Furthermore, the article alleges that this second job has been diverting the GM's attention away from the team he is supposed to be running, to the provable detriment of the franchise.

"It is a very eye opening revelation, especially when you look back and put all the pieces together," Sun Times Post Dispatch sports reporter Rob Powers said. "It's clear that this guy spends so much time at his other job that he can't run this team effectively. How else can you explain the lack of any trades to ensure the Talons make the playoffs? Or having to give away a prospect just to get out from under massive contracts that the team has taken on?"

"It's a very poor example of team stewardship. I first started making the connection when the Talons announced back in April that they were setting their draft to 'auto'. Are you serious?" Powers continued. "It's just crazy. I don't know how much they pay him at that refinery, but is it really worth watching this franchise flounder and fade?"

"No wonder he requested a Gulfstream G500 as part of his GM contract. He has to fly to Ohio three times a week to work his refinery shifts! And...And... get this...." Powers went on. "The reason the team does everything at Denny's is probably because there are not one, but two Denny's restaurants within 5 miles of that refinery! It all makes sense now!"

"Pulitzer here I come!" Powers yelled.
