Belin will probably be the best of this crop - dissapointed that he didn't fall.

He was top of my list. I knew he wouldn't fall to my pick.

I had him on my list as well, but figured I would attempt to poach him from whoever selected him.

He probably isnt' worth more than a couple million dollars max. A great starter vs LHP and a defensive sub off the bench. Good pickup to have as long as someone doesn't go insane with his offers.

I have the cap room to make an insane offer on a few guys, could be fun.

Except that Pettijean is a totally developed 2B, so he's worth a little more for position scarcity alone.

Is there a rule against front loaded deals? Could make sense for a team with room to offer a big first year and then a number of years of normal salaries.

Thanks to unncessary restrictive rules on contracts for young players, it will be 4-5 years before I have to start paying for the next group of prospects that I am about to bring up. I could make some silly offers on the EBA crowd because of that.

Nope.

At the same time I think you can't offer less than half of the largest single-year number in the contract in any year.

He is developed, but severely weakened because of his L/R split. Anyone that pays over $5 million for him is either going to regret that contract or is in DIRE need for a 2B. And if they're in dire need, they'll overpay and regret that contract! haha

With that said, I'd like to poll the owners of teams that signed some big time contracts on free agents and see how many of them are glad they made that deal or regretted it.

I semi-regret the 14 million offer I currently have on Daly. He's a good player who fits the OBP bill I'm searching for, but at this point, and as strapped for cap space that I am, I feel his $14 million could be better spent elsewhere.

He's pretty darn good on defense though.

5M is probably even a bit generous... the guy had a career OPS of .78 in the EBA (a league SIGNIFICANTLY more forgiving for RHers than the MBBA), so at best that will translate to a .7ish OPS here (which would have been a massively underwhelming 90ish OPS+ last season). Couple that with some slightly above average defense at 2B and I figured I could probably get 1... MAYBE 1.5 WAR from him in a full regular season.

Honestly, I'm already regretting wasting 5M in cash on the pick. I just hated the idea of leaving empty handed in the Rule 6 for two years in a row.

I don't have any I regret so far. Wakefield is a great Rule 6 pick (the best to date, imo) and signing still (especially after I let him learn CF) and while Moronobu has been dissapointing, his contract hasn't precluded me from doing anything I wanted to do - and it ends after this season.

Petitjean is a slightly better version than THIS GUY. THIS GUY I picked up on waivers two seasons back. Yeah, he had to surprising homeruns in the Landis, but no way I'm paying him more than $5 million. Especially when guys like this are readily avaialbe on waivers! haha
