Seattle Times, 1996, v.5 Other notes/Trade Block

Going into the 1997 season, most of the roster spots belong to those who are returning from last years playoff run. However, there are a few players who may be ending their tenure with the club. On offense, Astudillo, who had a decent season, is rumored to be on the trading block. Rumor has it that Seattle is looking for a strong bullpen arm or draft picks in return. Scott Piippo, who had a down season (even though going 11-7), looks to be coming back, but the same cannot be said for James Rogers, who has the potential but had a horrific season last year (2-4, 9.41, whip of 2.37). Andres Balbuenoand Guittierez also appear to be available in trades, if suitable replacements can be found in free agency. Also, Escudero, once a promising spec, is also on his last straw with the team, as he had a down year (.224 avg).

Seattle's Trade Block
War Astudillo, 3B
Andres Balbueno, RP
Scott Piippo, SP
James Rogers, Jr., SP
Alfredo Guittierez, RP
Tony Carter, C
Dean Cain, IF
Jacinto Merino, IF
Wilfredo Escudero, OF

Rivero is also potentially movable, but the cost is high, as I've already received several offers including top picks and specs

Most of my specs are available, except Kim, Giorgi, Valentine, and Bloomquist

Seattle is interested in draft picks and change of scenery guys, all other ideas welcomed too
