Seattle Times, 1996, v.2 Newcomers of the Year

The offensive newcomer for Seattle was Ewan Olsen, 3B. If one looks at Ewan's ratings, one would notice he is a top fielder at almost all positions. In 1996, he played 3B well, posting a 0.973 fielding percentage in 158 games. Offensively, Olsen had 13 HRs, 67 RBIs, and .279 avg. Although he is 28, he should be a cheap and viable player in the 1997 playoff run. Other: Herrero, SS, another elite defensive player and posted decent offensive numbers (1HR, 67RBIs, .263 avg), only 1 year after being drafted.

The pitching newcomer for Seattle was Marvin Lewis. The number 3 pick in 1995, he made it to the bigs this season as a reliever and posted a 6-7 record, with a 3.63 ERA in 86 innings. He should continue to improve and become a stellar bullpen option to combine with Dever.
