Jiménez, McClure Making Forever Park Splash

August 28, 2057: Omaha – While some teams look to the draft as a long-term investment, the Bikin Krill front office mad a choice to be more Now Oriented with their second and third choices, selecting left0handed hitting catcher Pedro Jiménez in round two and switch-hitting first baseman Mike McClure in round three.

After brief stints in AAA Pasco, both players are now finishing the season with the parent team, Jiménez having been called up in late July, McClure arriving last week Jiménez is working through a learning process at the big league level, specifically with regards to his glove, but both appear to be ready to stick

“We’re really happy with Pedro’s work here so far,” said manager Richard Lawson. “He knows he need to improve – and really, everyone on the team knows, too – but he’s a really magnetic guy who puts in the work. The numbers (.266/.314/.383, ,304 wOBA) are good enough for now. But the thing with Pedro is that he’s won everyone over because he’s in the video room and weight room every day. We’re expecting great things out of him.”

McClure’s splash was even more immediate, as he blasted two homers and posted a .333/.385/.625 slash in his first week at the BBA level. It was enough that his first official Caught Stealing drew guffaws from the bench. “I’m not sure what he was thinking,” said shortstop Larry Barkin. “I think he went on his own.”

The team has been excited for McClure as a solid glove on the infield, and as switch hitter with good plate discipline and 25-30 HR power.

“He’s kind of a plug-n-play guy,” Lawson said. “I’m looking forward to writing his name into the lineup for a while to see what happens.”

No one is thinking “future Hall of Famer” right now, but the early results are workable. Bikini has several other interesting prospects that came from this year’s draft, and with luck several will see the BBA level over the next few seasons. When that happens, it looks like Jiménez and McClure will be here to greet them.
