Krill 2B Named Player of the Week

April 7, 2059: Forever Land – Napoleon Mellott did not hit a home run today, but his teammates were not particularly upset.

“Just means we can pencil him in for two tomorrow,” said first baseman Mike McClure.

There might be something to that.

The kid from Jacksonville blasted a homer in Vancouver on Opening Day, then added two more the following day. Next he took a homerless day as the team finished a three-game sweep, but carried on with a blast in the home opener against Sacramento, and then another the following day. If you’re keeping score, that’s five home runs in five games. His zero yesterday makes it five in six days, and that works out to a 135 pace that would quite easily outdistance Long Chamberlain’s 73 back in the yore days of 1983.

As a result, Mellott was named the Frick League’s Player of the Week.

“I’m seeing the ball really well,” Mellot said. “It would be great if I could keep it up, but we all know better than that. The important thing is that we’re winning, though. That’s what needs to continue. Anything I can do to make that happen is something I want to do.”

Today the Krill stand at 4-2. Early in the season, of course. But 4-2 every week would look pretty good in the final analysis, and life is short: one should not miss the opportunity to see success as it happens.

Speaking of Bryan Vogel, this guy kind of reminds me of him....though with about 100 less strikeouts a year. @indiansfan

He gets a lot more walks than Vogel too, but he has the power.
