INJURY OFFSET BY FREE AGENT ACQUISITIONS
March 31, 2056
Long Beach, CA
As Spring Training wraps up, we're taking a look at a few of the new face in Surfers uniforms for the 2056 championship season. An early March injury to would-be-rookie Travis Wilson was offset by the signing of fresh faces for the starting rotation.
In December, the team signed veteran righty Lance Harrison to a one-year, $8MM deal with a mutual option at the same rate for a second season. Harrison has had 3 consecutive years with 3.0 WAR or greater, highlighted by a 5.3 win season in 2053 with Charlotte. The 35 year old power pitcher relies on his high 90s fastball, with a strong curveball and changeup to supplement. He’ll also throw an occasional slider to keep hitters guessing, but when he misses his spot with it, it can be damaging.
The Surfers followed up the veteran acquisition with a slightly more risky signing, that of 29 year old GBC veteran, Eng-hee Kin. The Taiwanese righty most recently was a starter with Sao Paolo, where he started 91 games over the past three years, pitching to a 98 ERA+. Scouts expect that his stuff, highlighted by his 100mph fastball will certainly play in the BBA. His slider and changeup also project to be above average BBA offerings. At times he has struggled with allowing home runs, but there’s hope that the Long Beach coaches and current pitching staff can help him improve in that aspect.
Stay tuned here to see how these new faces fare in the upcoming season, sure to be an exciting one in Long Beach!

I liked Harrison too. Think I topped out at like $5M-$6M.
