Little Out for the Playoffs
One of the key players in Calgary’s division winning season, will miss the entire playoffs with an injury. With only days left in the regular season, right fielder Michael Little injured his elbow and was expected to take months to rehab. Little hit 33 homers and drove in 87 runs before the injury.
“Michael has been a key player for us both last season and this one,” said manager Tony Franco. “We are hopeful that he can work through this and be ready for next season.”
The team is a little concerned as the elbow has been described as arthritic. Those are not words you want to hear about a 23 year old. An injury to another outfielder last year is also clearly on the team’s mind.
Little gained his job when starting right fielder Brodie Dempsey went down early last season with a broken wrist. He was never the same. In 2056, he was one of the top rookies in the game, hitting 41 HR and 94 RBI. He was beat out by teammate Ollie Long for the Gillstrom Award. During his injury season he only hit 12 homers and his OPS dropped by 127 points.
This season Dempsey spent the whole season back at AAA and his misery continued. He only started 38 games, hit .176, .597 OPS, etc. It looks like his career is over at 25 after 1 injury. Hopefully Little will escape the same fate.
