Stinson Closes in on 600
Larry Stinson, the Pioneers star first baseman, finished the season with 570 home runs. He should pass the 600 threshold sometime next season, a mark only 12 BBA players have achieved so far. Stinson hit 43 home runs this year. It is the 11th time, out of 13 seasons, that he has topped 40 in a year.
“They throw them and I hit em. There really isn’t a science to it,” Stinson said. “I’m more excited about the 142 RBIs I hit this year. Means I’m hitting when I am supposed to be.”
The 142 RBIs was a career best for Stinson, who has only once failed to reach the century mark when he only had 97 in 2050. However, he didn’t even lead the team with that number as DH Robert Chenowith drove in 146.
“I think I can pass Hector before I am done,” Stinson said referencing Pioneers hitting coach Hector Cano. “I hope we can both hang around for it.”
Cano, the Pioneers all time leader in home runs, hit 643, currently 7th all time. In this age of power hitters he won’t remain in the top 10 for long. Stinson’s 570 home runs puts him 20th all time, but he is only 8th in home runs among active players. He is the youngest of the group
