2057.12: What's Bruin? #21 BBA Prospect Debuts

Post by BaseClogger » Thu Dec 07, 2023 9:25 pm

6/3/2057

After surrendering an unthinkable 12 hits to lowly Bikini I decided it was time for Candrata Parmar to get some more seasoning in the minors. Parmar is still a promising-looking young lefty who despite being 25 years old doesn’t have a lot of experience starting. He still has two options left and if he can push his Stuff closer to its 10 Potential he’ll have a better chance of getting Brewster hitters out.

To replace Parmar in the rotation I expected to turn to Perry Wallace. Wallace has BBA experience and is having a tremendous season at AAA Brooks. But when I was looking for a pitcher on a similar rest schedule to Parmar I noticed Keith Mays. After a slow start to 2057 Mays had rattled off performances of 9 IP 0 ER, 9 IP 2 ER, and 8 IP 1 ER. It was finally time to give the top prospect his chance in San Fernando.

Mays is a nearly fully developed pitcher according to the scouts. The only aspect of his game still requiring polish is 5/8 fifth pitch, his knucklecurve. He came over in a trade with Atlantic City after that organization had run out of patience with the lackadaisical lunkhead. He has some platoon splits since his best pitch is a 10 slider, but his 8 curveball helps get lefties out too. Production has never kept up with his scouting reports but now he might finally be putting it all together.

It wasn’t a dominant performance, but Mays was able to hold Vancouver scoreless over 4.2 innings on the Bears’ way to winning 1-0. He’s rattled off back-to-back quality starts since then and I don’t expect to replace him in the starting rotation any time soon.

Mays moved up to #9 in the midseason list. Alas, he’s hurt again. Giving #20 prospect Morgan Tomsett a couple turns thru the rotation. Suddenly I’m flush with pitching prospects!
