2057.05: Bears' Cubs - OF Prospects

3/7/2057

In this edition of the 2057 Bears’ Cubs series I’ll focus on players who profile primarily as outfielders. This position group has not been an area of emphasis for me in recent drafts but I do have a stockpile of mediocre CF prospects.

A
None

B
None

C
C Vio Gal
C Taylor Bryant
C Kamatari Kino

D
D+ Lorenz Spee
D+ Miguel Montero
D Dallas Sly
D Cevdet Türkes
D Daniel Throsby

Honorable Mention
Alonso Martínez
Marcos Pepper
Gin-fan Koh
Alexander Marinescu

Vio Gal has 10 power. That’s the tweet. He’s slashed .269/.362/.556 as a pretty young guy in AAA after skipping AA, but I (and every other GM I try to trade Gal to) have concerns about his defense and bat-to-ball skills. He’ll burn his final option this season.

As a rule 5 selection, Taylor Bryant will only be eligible for a San Fernando prospect list for a little while longer. He recently received a $9M signing bonus from Charm City. He lumped an outfield range since I selected him in the rule 5 and now looks like he’s going to be limited to the corners. I still think he has the profile of a good player but his slow development makes it unlikely he sticks with us and will be returned.

Kamatari Kino fell on his face in A-ball last season but still has good potential ratings and youth on his side. The 2nd round pick should be able to play some center field when all is said and done.

Lorenz Spee was a supplemental 1st round draft pick just last year. He’s got a strong defensive profile but needs a small bump offensively to be an everyday player.

Miguel Montero was a 2nd round pick back in 2053 and hit at least .300 at each level of the minors. He has a chance to win my final bench spot this spring as a short-side platoon outfielder.

Dallas Sly should be able to play center field and has 6 potential contact. He hasn’t hit in the minors since being selected in the 3rd round in 2053.

Cevdet Turkes wouldn’t have even made it as an honorable mention on this list last offseason, but the defensive specialist hit .280/.390/.453 in AA last year to save his career.

Daniel Throsby isn’t much of a defender and just lumped from 7 to 6 potential contact. He might be a stretch to give a letter grade but is still just 19 years old.

If Gal can manage .250, his power will make him valuable enough. But man, if he could just bump contact.
