2049.1- Great News Bears: Tai hoi Who?

Heading into the 2049 season, nobody in the San Fernando Bears organization had more pressure on him than 23 year old 1B Tyler Ober. In his 2nd full BBA season, all Ober was asked to do was replace the greatest offensive player in franchise history (and should be Hall of Famer) Tai hoi Wie. When he was picked in the 2nd round of the 2045 draft, the organization clearly had a succession plan in mind, and he was lauded at the time as a great value pick with the official draft review saying

"Ober has his warts, to be sure. He might not hit for a very high average and he’s probably prone to striking out. But he should play excellent defense at first base, hit for power, and draw walks. He’ll need a caddy, but he’s the sort of player who only needs to hit about .260 to be really valuable in this league - and might never do it! – but he was a solid pick this late."
Ober certainly didnt crumble under the pressure this season, as he rose up with a .286/.414/.512 slash line which was good for 4.8 WAR and has him in contention for the first of what could be multiple Puckett Awards in his career. When asked about the future of the position GM Randy Weigand smiled and said "Tyler is exactly the sort of player we pride ourselves on here in San Fernando, and we look forward to him manning the position for a long time. It would be great if we can go over 30 years while only having 2 guys hold down the fort for us at 1B and that is certainly the plan at this point".
