Rolling the Dice v93.4 - Gambler Batter of the Year

Post by braveheart » Mon Jun 14, 2010 8:54 am

Yes, despite being lastish in just aout every offensive catergory, the Gamblers will still elect a Batter of the Year.

This Batter will be selected for his offensive contributions, and the fact that our new focus is on the good. We will have a UnBatter of the Year Award too, but you will have to wait to the end to get that persons name.

Without further ado, we are pleased to announce Firstbasemen Flavio Luna as the receipient of this years honor. Luna lead the club in batting average and on base percentage and slugging, earning him the honors. His line of 302-391-507 was fairly impressive, considering the Gamblers were 10th or worst in just about every category on offense. HE smacked 29 homeruns and collected 34 doubles. HE also posted a 91:89 walk-to-strikeout ratio, which we always liek to see. His run and RBI numbers were hurt by the rest of the teams OBP, or lack thereof. He only drove in 82 Runs, which was the team high. HE scored 88 runs, also team high. Clearly there is room for improvement here.

While Luna was successful as a Batter of the Year, we also had an UnBatter of the Year, who, well sucked balls. That honor will go to 2B Raul Bryant. While many were deserving, Bryant hit 236 with a 278 OBP and a 362 SLG. His VORP was -10.1. Yes Virginia, thats a negative. He amassed 131 Ks, with 19 walks. He did hit 9 HRs, and scored 51 runs, but that wasnt for lack of trying not to. HE did steal 33 bases, which was mostly negated by his 24 caught stealings. Basically a FAIL by Bryant.

Flavio Luna = the best player in the MBBA you've never heard of.

And he actually had kind of a down year by Luna's standards.
