2056-1 Mounties testing FA

Post by Knucklehead254 » Fri Aug 11, 2023 3:53 am

1. 2B Mahine Karetu

Brought in at the beginning of the 2055 season on a one year deal, Karetu played extremely well on the offensive side of the ball, hitting career highs in Homeruns (28) and RBIs (85) with a .288 AVG. However on the defensive side of the game, he was very very poor, finishing with a a ZR of -15.13 and 16 Errors. With Jorge Guiterrez already in the DH spot, and Karetu wanting a massive raise, it was clear the two sides weren't going to agree to an extension. He should make any team looking to fill their DH slot happy, just pray he never has to go on the field for any reason.

WAR lost: 1.6

2. 3B Blaine Tyler

Blaine was moved over to first to make room for the acquisition of Tony Frost from Nashville. He started the season fine but his average dipped down to the .220s and eventually he was replaced during the season. He played poorly the rest of the year as an occasional starter at third and first, giving Wharram little incentive to attempt to bring him back, never-mind that he had already informed management during the season that he was going to test FA. Wharram was more than willing to let him walk.

WAR lost: -0.2

3. 1B Dylan Malloch

Brought in near the deadline from Edmonton to take over Blaine Tyler's spot in the lineup, Malloch played good but unremarkable baseball during the teams late season playoff push. He did garner a lot of interest from the fans and became popular with them rather quickly, but he played slightly worse than with Edmonton as his splits slightly dipped down. However he was still a helpful option in the teams playoff push but he also wanted a max 6 year extension which Wharram wasn't willing to offer. Perhaps a team in FA will give him more of what he's looking for.

WAR lost: 0.6

4. SS Reynante Alvero

The decision for the offseason was which shortstop was Wharram going to keep for the next season, as both Alvero and Ewan Allman had team options. Alvero was disappointing in field, which was the main reason he was brought in. He committed 6 errors in just 30 games and had a ZR of -2.2. Also the decision was made easier as Alvero's team option would induce a $7.3M cap hit for 2056 with a player option for the same money in 2057. Perhaps he could return in a more team friendly deal but it doesn't seem like Wharram is too interested in bringing him back again. At least they didn't trade much to get him, hopefully?

WAR lost: -0.1

5. 1B Fakir Tahir

Originally splitting DH duties with Jorge Gutiérrez, Tahir struggled immensely before being flat out forced out of the platoon and relegated to backup DH. With Elmer Willis expected to slot in as a back up DH and Right fielder next year, no defensive ability to speak of, and not hitting the ball, the Mounties declined to offer arbitration and just let him walk. The Mounties are considering bringing him back on a minor league deal, but we are unsure at this time.

WAR lost: -0.1

6. CF Marat Harutyunian

The 35-year-old defensive specialist spent the year in Triple-A ball as Ramón Moreno held down the Center fielder spot in the BBA. He played very well on the defensive side and was surprisingly decent on the offensive of the ball as well, albeit only in the minor leagues. The Mounties would like to bring him back on a potential minor league deal after declining to enter arbitration with him. Whether he will agree to that remains to be seen.

WAR lost: 0
