Memo to File (1) | (49.14)

Post by mragland » Sun Feb 06, 2022 1:15 pm

This is kind of a meta team news, stepping out of the fictional universe to look at how the Stars 2049 lineup compares to MLB 2021 players. Listed below are Stars position players from the primary lineup with a couple of bench players, along with their closest offensive 2021 MLB comp (with respect to OPS) to get a different look at the team's performance.

1 – 2B Yodo Sato (.340/.368/.442); 1B Ty France, Seattle (.291/.368/.445). No current MLB player hits quite like Sato, but France is a very good match on OBP and SLG.

2 – DH Pedro Guzmán (.281/.363/.550); LF Tyler O'Neill, St. Louis (.286/.352/.560). While the Cannon lacks O'Neill's speed or defensive acumen, the two are pretty close in raw production.

3 – RF Donald Miller (.251/.358/.487); 1B Yuli Gurriel, Houston (.319/.383/.462). The OPS numbers are almost identical, though the two get there a little differently.

4 – 1B Juan Mateo (.280/.368/.568); 1B Joey Votto, Cincinnati (.266/.375/.563). Mateo closely matches Votto's second act as a power hitter.

5 – LF Júlio García (.269/.339/.540); DH Yordan Alvarez, Houston (.277/.346/.531). These two are very close in age and production, though Alvarez had a 'down' year compared to his 2019, and García looks to be on the way up.

6 – 3B Kenan Reis (.309/.354/.503); RF Mookie Betts, Los Angeles (.264/.367/.487). Reis doesn't draw the walks Betts does and Betts doesn't make the contact Ries does, but OPS figures are very lose.

7 – C Roelof Klooster (.241/.333/.376); 2B DJ LeMahieu, New York Yankees (.268/.349/.362). The OPS numbers are close, while Le Mahieu doesn't have quite as much pop as Klooster.

8 – CF Frédérick Brisset (.230/.323/.363); 2B Cesar Hernandez, Chicago White Sox (.232/.308/.386). A down year for Brisset has him at middle infielder level production at the plate.

9 – SS Russell Sharp (.213/.283/.294); SS Kevin Newman, Pittsburgh (.226/.265/.309). A pair of more or less replacement level short stops.

Bench – 1B Edgardo Díaz (.271/.326/.496); 1B Josh Bell, Washington (.261/.347/.476).
Bench – RF Gene Meade (.252/.316/ .468); 1B Anthony Rizzo, New York Yankees (.248/.344/.440).
