After a great May 20-9 the Stars the first week in June have gone 6-4 and are still 5 games behind California Crusaders and one game behind Vancouver Mounties for the wild card slot....The Stars have been hammered the last month with injuries but are still hanging in there...The starting pitching remains the strong area for the Stars, as the team era is 3.37 overall number 1....

INJURIES
CLO Wayne Stohlberg headed straight to the hospital. He was removed from the game as a precaution after throwing a pitch and the team's worst fears were confirmed when it turned out to be a little more serious. Stohlberg will miss at least 4 months with bone chips in his elbow. Stohlberg Could be out the rest of the 1999 season which really could hurt... Stohlberg has made 28 relief appearances with 16 saves. He has also fashioned a 1-4 won-lost mark with a 4.10 ERA. In 26.1 innings he has fanned 28. The Stars will call up 22 year old closer Joe Muldrow from AAA Bakerfield..Last year Muldrow was 2-6 2.74 and had 32 saves...So far this season before his call up Muldrow is 5-0 2.42 era with 9 saves in 19 games and was selected to the 1999 Rupert Horn Memorial League All-Star Game..
Vet CF Gary Barr who just came off the DL for the second time this season went back on for the third time with a post-concussion syndrome, and will be out for 3-4 months. The Stars could get Barr buy the playoffs if they make it..Barr is 37 years old and might not get better in time...
The Hackensack Bulls and Stars announced a deal that was completed last week. Hackensack sent 25-year-old minor league shortstop Tim Miller to Valencia for 25-year-old minor league reliever Herman Mitchell..The Stars needed a good backup SS and 3B with very little in the minors...

Muldrow looks like he could be a decent replacement, certainly having a nice season in AAA.
