Game 1- The Hawaii offense has packed it in since April and the guys have tee times set up for the off season as the Bears roll. Trops hitters produced just a run on seven hits and six walks while fanning six nine times. They couldn’t take advantage of the Bears homerun park but did hit five doubles.

3B Mitch Wareham was 1 for 5 with an RBI double (27) and drove in CF Angelo Lucchesi who was 1 for 3.

On the mound, Utbah ‘Crawdad Me’ bin Muta threw 65 pitches in 3.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits and two walks. He fanned five batters but falls to 1-5 with a 5.87 ERA. The Bears blew the game open with three runs off reliever Chih Kuang in 1.1 innings of work. He gave up those runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one.

San Fernando wins 5-1.

Game 2- The Tropics drop another one run game as the Bears go up 2-0 in the series. Hawaii is now 12-24 in one-run games this season. The offense put up three runs this time on ten hits and a walk but fanned eleven times in the loss while not hitting a homer for the 2nd straight game in Chico’s Bail Bonds Field.

1B Tomas Borges was 2 for 5, tripled (8) and scored two runs. Felipe Hernandez was 1 for 4 with a double (8) and an RBI. Bob Chastain was 1 for 3 with a double (21) and scored a run. 2B Kirby Adams was 1 for 3 and drove in a run.

Starter Elvin Hilliard took the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk in 5.1 innings. He struck out five as he falls to 7-12 with a 4.22 ERA. Luis Perez allowed a run in 1.1 innings on two hits and a walk with a K. Manny Ortiz turned around his recent woes with 1.1 hitless innings with a K.

Game 3- The Bears score four runs in the bottom of the 8th to take a 5-0 lead but then almost cough it up as the Trops rally for three runs before ultimately falling. Hawaii DH Tomas Borges came into the game in the 8th as a pinch hitter and was 2 for 2 with a three-run blast in the 9th that caused some tense moments for Bears fans. Mitch Wareham (1 for 5) and Adhyapayana Mehta (1 for 5) scored on the Borges blast.

Hawaii starter Gerardo Rea capped off the worst season of his career with a nice start. He pitched six innings allowing a run on four hits and a walk with four Ks. He is tagged with the loss and is now 1-16 with a 5.45 ERA. If anyone is to take blame for this loss, it should be Utkan Gocek. Gocek allowed three runs on two hits and a walk in 1.1 innings of relief.

San Fernando wins 5-3.

Game 4- The Hawaii Tropics offense releases some pent-up frustrations on the Bears pitchers and avoid a series sweep. Tomas Borges led the way with two homers (33) and three RBI in a 3 for 6 day at the plate. C Frank McMillan was equally damaging to the Bears going 3 for 4 with a two-run homer (9), drew two walks, scored four runs and drove in two. Mehta doubled, scored a run, and had two RBI. 2057 1st Round pick Julian Rivera made his 1st start in the BBA. The rookie looked calm at the plate and in the field while going 3 for 5, scored two runs and had two ribbies. SS Thomas Kramer came in late in the game and was 1 for 3 with a double (26) and three RBI.

Phil Thompson made the start for Hawaii allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in 3.2 innings. He struck out two in a no decision. Chih Kuang earned the win with 2.2 scoreless innings to improve to 7-2 with a 2.55 ERA. He gave up three hits, walked one and fanned four. Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds has had a really good season after being converted to a reliever. He pitched 1.2 scoreless innings while walking one and striking out two batters. Manny Ortiz has another solid appearance for Hawaii pitching an inning with a walk and two Ks.

Hawaii wins 15-3.

The Bears win the series 3-1.

One more series and this nightmare will end.
