The Tropics return home for a 12-game homestand beginning with a two-game series against the Vancouver Mounties.
Game 1- The Vancouver Mounties break open a close game in the 6th with three runs then score three more in the 8th as they easily take the series opener. Hawaii starter Phil Thompson made the start for Hawaii and allowed two unearned runs on three hits and walked three batters. He struck out two in five innings of work. Luis Perez took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits and a walk. He struck out two batters as he falls to 0-4 with a 6.28 ERA.
RF Carlos Sanchez was 1 for 4 with a solo homer (10) in the 2nd inning. 3B Mitch Wareham was 1 for 5 with a triple (2) and scored on a 6-3 ground out by 2B Adhyapayana Mehta.
Vancouver wins 8-3.
Game 2- The Hawaii offense continues to struggle as the Mounties hold the Trops to a run on 8 hits and earn the series sweep. Mehta was 2 for 4 with a double (11) in the 8th and scored Hawaii’s only run on a pinch-hit single by Felipe Hernandez.
Gerardo Rea was tagged with yet another loss after allowing three runs on four hits and three walks in five innings of work. He struck out two batters and falls to 1-9 with a 5.81 ERA. Juan Martinez didn’t do anything to stop the Mounties offense as he allowed a couple of runs in three hits and a walk in 1.1 innings of relief. Chih Kuang was able to get things under control as he held Vancouver to just two hits in 2.2 innings while fanning two batters.
Vancouver wins 5-1.
The Mounties sweep the two-game series.
