Tropics News 2057.15
The Hawaii Tropics play a short, two-game series in Vancouver against the Mounties. The ridiculous portion of the season with short road trips and short homestands begins!
Game 1- The Mounties and Tropics play into the 10th innings before Vancouver walks it off with a two-run homer. Hawaii starter Gerardo Rea may have things straightened out after 8.2 good innings. He allowed a run on four hits with no walks and six Ks in a no decision. Juan Martinez gets tagged with the loss after giving up the game winner to fall to 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA.
Tropics 3B Mitch Wareham provided the Hawaii offense with a solo homer in the 6th inning.
GM Jim Walker said, “It’s official, we’re a dumpster fire.”
Vancouver wins 3-1.
Game 2- Today’s disaster was a result of poor pitching and defense combined with a comatose offense. Starter Elvin Hilliard gave up three runs on eight hits and a walk in five innings. He took the loss and falls to 1-2 with a 5.29 ERA. Bill Williams and 3B Mitch Wareham made it worse as Wareham commits an error then Williams can’t work his way out of it. Williams allows four runs on two hits and two walks in 1.1 innings.
Tomas Borges has been a steadying presence for this team. He was 3 for 4 with a two-run homer in the 8th inning. SS Thomas Kramer was 1 for 4 with a double and scored a run.
Vancouver wins 7-4.
The Mounties sweep the two-game series.
