Pacheco Expressed Desire to Stay With M’opes
June 17, 2056
Word from insiders within the Sacramento front office is that talks have begun with longtime manager Fernando Pacheco.
“It’s an open and shut guarantee that they’ll get something done,” said the inside source. They went on to suggest that the initial meeting was smooth and quick, and basically entailed GM Ron Collins saying whaddaya want? and Pacheco responding with a number that Collins said yes to. That only makes sense. Pacheco has a 938-591 record and is two seasons out from a Monty championship. He’s in the last year of his deal, so if the club lets him walk, Collins might well find his office stormed by disgruntled fans.
Pacheco, who is also well-regarded by team members, was not available for comment as he prepared for three-game series at Omaha.
There was no word on the duration of the deal, nor was an actual number given, but at 49 years old, the manager is in a prime position to continue a potential Hall of Fame managerial career, and at $2.8M currently, he ranks as the second highest paid manager in the game behind Las Vegas’s venerable Edward Allen. One suspects that the salary will not be less, and the commitment could be considerable.
