Mueller Issues Report, Puts Partial Kibosh on Stadium Plans
Nov5, 2055
Escorted by the mysterious green-eyed woman who has been known to hang around Mad Pope corridors, and scratching at a nearly healed scar at the hairline of his temple, Sacramento Councilman Brad Mueller strode to the podium and made it official. Having miraculously scraped up the $150B financing deal he’d been working offline, Mueller resigned his post with the community council and will be buying the franchise.
Given no one had been informed that the team was on the block, shock at the announcement was palpable.
“If anyone knows how valuable this franchise is, it would be me, Mueller said as he laid out a multi-point condensation of a major report he had funded to reveal how the team supports the city and how the city supports the team. Though some suggested it wasn’t conclusive, the Mueller report was extensive and showed a clear line of evidence to support his claims. Later review of it made is obvious: its conclusions were easily enough to act upon “It’s important that we maintain a steady influence and not make changes willy-nilly.”
With that, Mueller explained that the city council’s approval of the team’s building and renovation plan had been approved contingent up on it not going too far. While new GM Ron Collins has been working with architects and fans to make wide-spread changes that might well include grass type, major park dimensions and sightlines, and whatnot, Mueller’s view seemed to be streamlined.
“Aesthetics are important, and the buck stops here,” the new owner said. “I like parts of the plans I’ve seen. Things like the extra seats in honor of my predecessor seem like a natural fit. And those might alter the field a bit—maybe reduce the foul territory, which would bring the fans even closer two the action.” Mueller also voiced support for extending the hitting backroad a touch by expanding the greenery along the center field wall. “The view of the tower is splendid now,” he said. “But I think we could expand the security around it.”
How that might alter the way the field plays was uncertain, but after the session was over the green-eyed woman quickly escorted the new M’opes owner off to the wings, obviously checking on Mueller's scar, and leaving all the remaining reporters’ questions unanswered.
Ron Collins, the team's General Manager was not there to add his viewpoint, and, in fact, the speed of the announcement leaves some to ponder if Collins had even known the sale was in the works.
