With all the gossip around Sacramento seems to be focused on the relationship between the Mad Popes and Carlos Flores, it appears that the real heat is centering on in center fielder Don Keagle, known around the Brewster as “Cult of Camacho.”
While a deal hasn’t been finalized, team insiders suggest that the Mad Popes have come to terms with the Cult, and that only a few I’s need to be dotted and T’s to be crossed on a deal rumored to be good for as many as three seasons. The outfielder's most recent girlfriend was recently seen being escorted by a real estate agent on a tour of downtown condos, a tidbit that close followers of the team have used to suggest the rumors are true.
Originally drafted to the Calgary team, Don Keagle was the object of a highly publicized quest by the Mad Popes to see him in their centerfield—which is quite massive, and which allows the gifted outfielder ample opportunities to display his elite glove. “I love it out there,” Cult of Camacho said recently. “You can run for miles and still make the catch.” That quest came to its fruition at the end of last season when Calgary traded Cult of Camacho to the team. He’s due to be a free agent at the end of the year.
Buzz around the clubhouse was good, and in the bullpen was even better.
"He's a good teammate," one player noted.
“I love having him out there, Reuben Vazquez said. “He just goes and gets them.”
Reports are saying the deal could be finalized as early as this week.
