Proctor & Drayton 2052 Draft Class

The Madison Wolves have seen a significant improvement in their offense since releasing SS Mauro Soto in July. The team has taken a platoon approach at shortstop, utilizing 23-year-olds Ken Proctor and Joe Drayton Jr to fill the gap left by Soto's departure. Both Proctor and Drayton have shown promise at the plate, contributing to the team's improved offensive performance.

Proctor, in 39 games, has amassed 143 at-bats, resulting in 36 hits, including 9 doubles, 5 home runs, and 18 runs batted in (RBI). He has also drawn 12 walks and struck out 30 times, with a batting average of .252, an on-base percentage of .314, and a slugging percentage of .420, resulting in an OPS of .734. Proctor's weighted on-base average (wOBA) stands at .298, with an isolated power (ISO) of .168, and a weighted runs created plus (wRC+) of 81.

Drayton, in 32 games, has accumulated 81 at-bats, resulting in 26 hits, including 5 doubles, and 10 RBIs. He has also drawn 5 walks and struck out 18 times, with an impressive batting average of .321, an on-base percentage of .368, and a slugging percentage of .383, resulting in an OPS of .751. Drayton's wOBA stands at .329, with an ISO of .062, and a wRC+ of 102.

When combined, Proctor and Drayton's offensive contributions have been notable, with both players showing consistent hitting ability and the potential for further improvement. Their combined stats include 119 games played, 224 at-bats, 62 hits, 14 doubles, 5 home runs, and 28 RBIs. They have drawn 17 walks and struck out 48 times, with a combined batting average of .277, an on-base percentage of .338, and a slugging percentage of .404, resulting in a combined OPS of .742. Their combined wOBA stands at .315, with a combined ISO of .115, and a combined wRC+ of 91.

One area of concern for the Wolves after releasing Soto was his defensive prowess, as he was known for his solid fielding skills at shortstop. However, both Proctor and Drayton have stepped up defensively, with Drayton playing 16 games at shortstop, making 14 putouts, 33 assists, and participating in 4 double plays without committing an error, resulting in a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000. Proctor has played in 38 games at shortstop, making 50 putouts, 108 assists, and participating in 25 double plays, with only 4 errors, resulting in a fielding percentage of .975. Both Proctor and Drayton have shown good range and efficiency in their fielding, with Proctor boasting a range factor (RNG) of 4.34 and a zone rating (ZR) of +1.1, and Drayton with a RNG of 3.70 and a ZR of +0.1.

Comparatively, Soto's offensive and defensive performances during the season were lackluster. In 57 games, Soto had 193 at-bats, resulting in 30 hits, including 7 doubles, with 11 RBIs. He drew 5 walks and struck out 30 times, with a batting average of .161, an on-base percentage of .181

The team is 18-11 since releasing Soto, and is now 7 games back of the final wild card spot in the Frick with a couple of months left to play.

Pretty impressive combo of young shortstops. Great that you’re still getting solid D to go with the improved hitting.
