That's What Cheesehead - 99.4 - May POTM

Post by 7teen » Sun Feb 20, 2011 12:29 pm

Here are the Wolves' organizational players of the month for the month of May...

Hitter of the Month

Bopper Kengos
So we had four guys with OPS over .900 in May and two guys with OPS over 1.000 for the month. But in the end, we have to give the award to the same guy that won the award for the entire league in May and that would be Mr. Bopper Kengos. One of the top players in the game had one of the best months a player could have. Kengos hit .442/.455/.699 in May with 7 homeruns and 20 RBI. I think what amazes me most with Bopper is how infrequently he strikes out. He K'd only twice in May, giving him 10 for the season. In 1997, he struck out only 21 times, last season, only 20.

Pitcher of the Month

Chip Foodie
For the second straight month, Foodie is our top pitcher. In May, Chip went 4-1 with a 2.91 earned run average in in 46.1 innings pitched. He struck out 43 for the month while walking only 7. I can't tell how that ranks with the rest of my staff since the monthly stat pages aren't fully up to date.

AAA Player of the Month

Adam Spurle
Spurle is having a phenominal season and had a great month of May. While May did see Spurle lose his first game of the season (and only one thus far still) he did manage to go 4-1 in May with a 1.45 ERA. In 6 starts, Spurle logged 43.1 innings pitched and just 42 base runners allowed. He struck out 28.

AA Player of the Month

Steve Chase
This one was a close race. I very easily could have given the award to Scott Copp for the 2nd straight month. But Chase had a slightly better output. Chase hit .310/.375/.590 for an OPS of .965. He belted 6 homeruns and drove in 21 RBI.

A Player of the Month

Cedric Ayers
Ayers is one of our top pitching prospects in the minor leagues. He had a solid month of May, going 4-2 with a 2.58 ERA and 40 strikeouts.

**Note, the batting and pitching stats weren't up to date with the end of the month. Thus, these guys may, or may not, have ended as our best players for the month statistically.
