That's What Cheesehead: 21.03 - Another One Gone
Remember at the beginning of last season when we wrote THIS TN about how Madison had created the greatest bullpen ever assembled in MBWBA history? Well, it sure would have been nice to have seen that bullpen actually play ONE game together during an MBWBA season game. Late in spring training last season, on March 26 to be exact, Miguel Flores suffered a torn UCL that required Tommy John surgery that sidelined the young promising reliever for the entire 2020 season. He was expected to be the 8th inning man and potentially the heir to the great Madison Closers role. But that will never be the case. Nor will fans ever get to watch this awesome bullpen close down opponents late. Last week, Flores announced that while the surgery went well, he will never pitch in the MBWBA. He has chosen to retire.
Flores, the former 1st round draft pick of Madison in 2014, was having a solid young career up until the time of his injury. Through 2 seasons, he had recorded a 10-11 record with 17 saves. He had lowered his ERA from 4.38 his rookie season down to 3.18 in year 2 and was primed to really take that next step as an elite MBWBA closer in 2020 before the injury. He was expected to be a part of the 3-headed monster that we he, Luis Tiant, and Rule 6 pickup Armando Morales. Unfortunately, Flores' career will end at the age of 26.
I could go into more detail about how Madison is enduring a string of bad luck when it comes to career ending injuries, but fuck, I just wrote that damn article. Flores joins Sinclair Kooijman on the list of promising young Madison pitchers who have hung it up due to injury THIS SEASON!!!!! Maybe Kyle should write an article about how these guys were overused and it led to their injuries.... Oh wait, they couldn't have been more underused.

The game engine really sucks sometimes... Lesser GMs would have disappeared by now. Glad to see you are taking it in stride... or at least better than that Caps loss. Doh!

Instead, he's probably going to still run away with the division rather than disappearing. There are LOTS of lesser GMs.

I'm not going anywhere. Enjoy these leagues too much.
I spent over 25 seasons with the GBC before Recte introduced me to the world of OOTP and been hanging with these ever since. Spent the entire run with the ORB2 and now I'm here until either I die or the league dies one or the other. Then I'll catch on with whatever else Recte puts together.
In fact, I'm starting to look forward to the challenge of trying to rebuild Madison after this eventual collapse hits (granted I've been expecting that for about 10 seasons now but it hasn't come yet).
