Chicago Faithful Denied
The Resurrection of Resurrection
Chicago, April 28, 2049 -- The internet blew up this afternoon, at least in Chicago, over word that the grandson of Black Sox legend Resurrection Santos, his namesake Resurrection Santos III, was chosen by another team in the 2049 MBBA amateur draft.
In fact, Santos III was chosen as the first overall pick in the draft by the rebuilding El Paso Chilis. Black Sox fans are furious that other MBBA GMs didn't do choose other players in the draft so that Santos III was still available when Chicago's pick comes up. Chicago has the 33rd pick in the first round.
Hell hath no fury like Milly scorned
"You mean those other teams couldn't have shown us the courtesy, and honor this great franchise's illustrious history, by leaving the latest Resurrection for us?" cried one fan, 79-year Millicent Duckworth, who was so despondent that she vowed to give up all social media scrolling for three whole hours. "Fuck them all. We will make them pay," she posted before shutting off her phone.
The elder Resurrection had a 20-year career in the MBBA, including stops in New Orleans, Seattle, Hawaii, Washington, Louisville and Phoenix. But he was best known as a member of the Black Sox for his first eight seasons, from his rookie year in 1993 until 2000. He was a mainstay of the club during its consecutive Landis titles in '95 and '96 and became a beloved regular in the pubs and breweries on the southside of Chicago, where he rarely if ever had to pay his tab. (Coincidentally, the general manager of those title teams, Mike Dunn, has just returned to Chicago as GM).
Dunn wouldn't comment on the fact that the club was not given an opportunity to draft Resurrection's grandson, other than to say, "We wish Resurrection the Third all the best as he embarks on his professional career. He's an impressive youngster who embodies the very best of his grandfather's hard work and fortitude."
The younger Resurrection projects to be an excellent contact hitter with a sharp eye. Like his grandpa, he patrols centerfield with speed and an excellent glove. Not one single Resurrection--not the first, the second, or the third--could be reached for comment.
