After a 2056 season that had featured very little offensive turnover and has three of the five members of Jacksonville's excellent starting rotation returning, one would suspect that prognosticators would have given the Hurricanes a solid chance at a winning record or even a playoff spot. Um, no. The Preseason Predictions projected the Hurricanes to lose a ghastly 107 games this year, and fans are absolutely stunned.
"Did...did they not notice that we made the playoffs the last two years?" said team superfan Wai Lee Eyu. "Were they not paying attention? Do they not know we still have Bob Anderson and Bernie Stuart?"
Fans were equally stunned that the projections ignored their offense from last year, which finished with 828 runs, third in the Johnson League. Jacksonville did lose some players this offseason, but they had combined for a total of -3.0 WAR, which isn't a reason to downgrade anyone.
"You know that we are returning almost every single one of our starters," said fan Sobek Lacoste. "It's been a very long time since we had a team as good as this. Two of our players were All-Stars. This is a good team. Do not malign us so."
Jacksonville has attempted to upgrade several positions this offseason, including starting pitcher and shortstop. Neither Jaime Rintala nor Hal Thorne, the likely starters to start the season, will be better than Orlando Lopez, but the Hurricanes signed shortstop Juan Castillo who the team hopes will help out the offense by knocking in some runs with his power bat from the position.
"So many walks on the offense," said fan Charley Michael. "So much on base percentage. This team will be able to score runs and the pitching staff is still good."
So could the predictions be wrong? Time will tell.
"I think it's just terrible trying to make those boys feel bad," said aged fan Irma Dennis. "That's a nice bunch of boys there. They shouldn't go off thinking they're going to lose that much."

I assume it’s simply based on how you had your lineups and pitching staff set, but by all means don’t let that prevent good bulletin board material.
