PLEASE VOTE-----Seven Day Playoff Sims
We've been debating moving our playoff sims to the same length as regular season sims. Playoff series can take up to two in-game weeks to finish, and there's been some discussion as to whether it's right to have one sim per playoff round or whether we want to allow playoff teams to make adjustments mid-series.
Please vote in the poll here so that we can hear your voice.
There are some positives to this for playoff and non-playoff teams alike: extended end of season PPT time for teams who are under the limit, more time to plan offseason moves, more attention to the Florida Prospect League, a little more "glamour" on the championship series and a little more of a reward for playoff teams.
The largest negative for this would be that non-playoff teams would have to wait longer to actively play (other than extensions and planning).
Generally the playoffs take about a week to sim as we now sim every other day. Extra sims would make that longer than a week, but no more than two weeks.
Tentative plan for this:
Geoghegan: simmed in full since it's currently 5 games (not a big difference).
Doubleday: either simmed in full or 7-day
Cartwright & Landis: 2 7-day sims (or as necessary, as teams could be swept).
Please vote in the poll here so that we can hear your voice.

Re: PLEASE VOTE-----Seven Day Playoff Sims
I'd prefer the current format but be allowed to give different plans for starts depending on the outcomes of the previous games. Even better, maybe the possibility of using slack or something to talk to Recte during the sim if we choose to do so, so that he could tell us about injuries, etc. Maybe seeing the results live could tell him, he' start this guy next instead, etc.
If that's not possible. I'd prefer the status quo. I like the idea of being able to break up the round to make changes, but it would add another week to what is essentially already a pretty boring time of the year for most teams.

Thats a long time to go for non-playoff teams. Maybe just try it in the Landis for a couple seasons and see what people think.

In my limited playoff experience, there's been times I'd like to decide the game 4 starter, but it all depends on how the first three games go.
As it is now, you're just shooting in the dark...
If you're down 1-2 or 0-3, then maybe the 1st game starter should go even if he's only 80%?
Either way though, both managers have the same issue, so it's fine both ways

Re: PLEASE VOTE-----Seven Day Playoff Sims
I'll vote "yes," but in my mind it's good only if (1) we can move pretty fast (using Slack or whatever to shorten the cycle), and (2) if it works for Matt's schedule.
My guess is that something like this would be fluid--that sometimes Matt could make it work and others he can't. So in ways, it would change the dynamic of the world year-to-year.

I love to micro manage so I voted 7 days. But I'm down for whatever is best for the league and the simmer.

If I was in the playoffs, I wouldn't want to drag these sims out. Being that I'm not, I also don't want to drag these sims out.

Re: PLEASE VOTE-----Seven Day Playoff Sims
Injuries and poor performances happen in the playoffs. I've long wanted to be able to adjust for games 5-7 based on what happens in 1-4. The entire point of the 2 month+ long season is getting to the playoffs and then we whizz by the playoffs in a blink of an eye while stripping participants of agency. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Re: PLEASE VOTE-----Seven Day Playoff Sims
I would prefer 7-day sims if I were in the playoffs. That said, as someone not in the playoffs, when I initially voted I was under the impression that this league simmed the playoffs daily...Since it doesn't, then GM's not in the playoffs can lose interest pretty fast just trying to figure out when the playoffs will finally be over...I like the break during the series; I am opposed to not accelerating the sim schedule during the playoffs...for interests sake anyway.
I'm not even going to mention that since the names of each series has some name that doesn't relate to where the BBA is in the playoff time-frame that I have no idea at any given time when I will need to download and export....I will do it randomly till I figure it out.

Re: PLEASE VOTE-----Seven Day Playoff Sims
In all fairness we didn't take the option recte voted for either... I always understood (both before and after I joined GB) that polls like this were just meant to inform the GB (and in some cases recte specifically) about how the general public feels. The vote was really close in this case so I don't think it was entirely out of line to go with the option that we did.

Re: PLEASE VOTE-----Seven Day Playoff Sims
Oh...I didn't even know they instituted the 7-day sims in the playoffs and that the vote was irrelevant...PLEASE VOTE were the words, like it was mandatory...yeah, what you wrote makes no sense to me from a logical standpoint...regardless, the playoffs keep dragging and at times I think I know where they are in the timeline....the lack of accelerated sims (it's probably in the league constitution) would have changed my vote...for whatever that is worth. Regardless, good luck to the 2-8 teams that are still in the playoffs...I will be over here waiting...usnspecialist wrote: ↑Thu Feb 28, 2019 10:40 amIn all fairness we didn't take the option recte voted for either... Re: PLEASE VOTE-----Seven Day Playoff Sims
FWIW I was in the playoffs and I totally understand Boise's take on this. I'd definitely prefer a split in the series, but I think if we do it, we need to be on an accelerated sim schedule. I think the majority, maybe even all of the playoffs teams were able to export quickly after the first of the two sims were done. If we had a sim each night, I think that would be even more engaging for the league. I know that's a difficult ask on the simmer. I think if we're not able to get an accelerated sim schedule though than we're asking a lot of the majority of the teams in the league to wait a long time until their team plays again. I mean imagine if you couldn't make any moves in the offseason too or didn't want to. That's a loonnnnggggg time to wait.

Re: PLEASE VOTE-----Seven Day Playoff Sims
I actually liked the way this season's playoffs went. I do think that if the teams left let Recte know when they exported that maybe we could get through it a little quicker - assuming Recte had the spare time.

Re: PLEASE VOTE-----Seven Day Playoff Sims
As a new gm I have liked the slower pace to dig into the league but if I was a returning gm I would probably be a little bored in the playoffs.
