Eight games left on the farm and none that matter in Riyadh
20 games left in Riyadh’s 2047 season and the mist & gloom continues to settle around. With nothing to play for now we are really just marking time until this dreadful season is over, with 70 wins last year we thought we would kick on towards .500, but instead we need to play .400 baseball the rest of the way just to equal Cairo’s 53-win season of 2046. After Port Elizabeth’s season has now finished we have added Cam Woods and Chris Glass to the extended roster in Riyadh. Both were picked in the rule 5 draft by Cairo but eventually sent back and both have been having good seasons in Triple-A. Woods will have plenty of AB’s at second base as it doesn’t look like Grady Fern will return this season from the IL and Clive Timberlake has gone into a funk, hitting just .174 in his last seven games. Glass is trying out for a backup catcher slot next year, Mike Schofield and Pablo Espinoza have been pretty poor with the bat this year. Maybe Glass can sneak in one of their places?
Ricardo Quadrado made his first start of 2047 last week and went seven strong innings giving up just two hits to pick up the win and join Bert Hackworth on a team-leading six wins. Martin McLeish, in his first ever UMEBA cup of coffee, hit his first two big league home runs in an 8-5 win in Jerusalem. Burt Davies mired in a 1-21 (.048) streak has been relegated to a small dark corner in the back of the dugout as Alfredo Diaz, hitting a slightly better .071, gets his try at shortstop.
