Buenos Aires Brisas 41-63 .394 26 GB L10: 3-7 Strk: L5

Oof. Beunos Aires had a 1-win Sim that began poorly then devolved into just plain embarrassing. It's one thing to get swept by the best team in the league. Yet another to suffer the same fate versus the (next-to) bottom team.

Cairo 7-3 W
The Brisas began the Sim on a high note in taking the rubber game of a home set vs Cairo. The team put up 2 in the 2nd inning and, after watching the Pharaohs take a 3-2 lead in the 5th, shut the door with 2 in the 7th and then a 3-run 9th. Before this game, starter Alberto Castaneda owned a streak of 9 games giving up 2 ER or less. He only gave up the 3 runs in this one but got no decision.

@ Athens 0-9 L
@ Athens 6-7 L
@ Athens 4-8 L

At least it started quick and painless. The first game in Athens was just brutal as the Centaurs touched up Brisas starter Vern Kline for 4 runs in the 1st, then 3 more in the 2nd. Multi-hit games from 1B Odemar Lock (4-5, 3 R, 1 RBI) and 3B Bert Cleaver (3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI) couldn't overcome Keneki Umina giving up 4 runs in 4.1 innings. The Brisas still held a shot when the Centaurs scored 2 in the 8th to grab a 1-run lead, but the team went down in order in the 9th. In the final game of the series it was yet again pitching that let the Brisas down. Aurelio Pérez took the hill for Buenos Aires and proceeded to give up 4 runs in 4.1 innings, P Dan Grigoras surrendered 2 more in the 6th and the Centaurs were cruising to the sweep.

@ Sydney 0-5 L
@ Sydney 3-4 (13) L

Eager to cleanse their palate, the Brisas flew into last-place Sydney on the 26th confident of at least 1 win. But the Sharks were not ready to go down to Buenos Aires. In the first contest, Sharks starter Miguel Sánchez took a no-hitter into the 8th inning when Eduardo Herrera ambushed him for a single to start the frame.

The 2nd game was a classic. The Brisas jotted a 3-spot in the 3rd but the Sharks would get 1 back in the 6th and the game was tied 3-3. It would remain so for 4 more innings until Buenos Aires relief pitcher Dan Grigoras walked in the winning run and now the Brisas stare up at Sydney. And everyone else for that matter.
