Hold My Log - 57.39 - Gaajlimitz Eyes 25 Year Old Record
We have entered the final month of the Short A season schedule and eyes for Portland Lumberjacks fans have shifted to watching Mynorli Gaajlimitz and his pursuit of a record. After prematurely being labeled a bust after going hitless in his first big league game (he actually went hitless in his first 3 games), Gaajlimitz has turned things around in a huge way. On the season, Mynorli is now batting .432/.506/.514 and has posted a 2.6 WAR on the season
While his stats are dazzling, there is one stat that has gotten everyone's attention down in the Drake League. That is obviously the hits totals Mynorli is putting up and whether he can capture the record for most hits in a Drake League season. The current hits record is held by Dimiao Laqui, a now retired player who did spend 6 seasons in the BBA with Yellow Springs in the late 30s. Playing for Guantanamo in the 2032 season, Laqui set the Drake single season hits record with 137 base hits. Accomplishing the feat in 91 games played.
Gaajlimitz enters the final month of the season sitting at 95 hits on the season, putting him 42 hits shy of Laqui. A tall order for any hitter. Gaajlimitz has 22 games remaining on the calendar. So if you can do the math, I'm not sure some of you can, Gaajlimitz will need to average right at 2 hits per game in the final month to top Laqui's record. Gaajlimitz's 95 hits this season have come over 54 games played, putting him under the needed pace to top Laqui. But that brings into question some other factors.
More math here, but Mynorli will only play in 76 games this season with Antigua. He's played in all 54 of the team's games to this point. This would put Antigua and Mynorli playing in 15 fewer games than what Laqui played with Guantonomo 25 years ago.
"I guess it'll make him earning the record all the more impressive" commented Antigua manager Wilson Rodriguez. "We aren't putting any asterisks or anything on this. Rules changes, things change. This stuff happens over time. All I know is that if Mynorli breaks the record this season, playing 15 fewer games than the previous record holder, I doubt we'll see the record broken again anytime soon."
On the season, Gaajlimitiz has gone hitless in a game just 11 times this season since being drafted by Portland. Over the other 43 games, Mynorli has recorded multiple hits 30 times.

I heard someone say his teammates are working to shave runs if needed in order to get nothing but extra inning games, hence extra AB.

Did the SA season used to be longer or has he not started every game?

I’m assuming it must have been longer. He has started every game. I’m wondering if we used to run the SA season through SeptemberBaseClogger wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 10:46 amDid the SA season used to be longer or has he not started every game?

Re: Hold My Log - 57.39 - Gaajlimitz Eyes 25 Year Old Record
The real question is who is this 25-year-old and what's she doing with that record?
And, yes, as I recall the SA and Rookie seasons were reduced to allow us to not field teams prior to the draft being complete. Or something like that.

TN coming over the weekend. But he went 5-5 in the next to last game of the year to break the record. Oddly enough he didn't break the Batting Average record though.
