Hold My Log - 57.32 - Players of June

Post by 7teen » Mon Dec 18, 2023 10:30 am

The month of June saw Portland return to winning ways as the club went 15-12 overall to finish the 3rd month with a 40-41 overall record at the mathematical halfway point of the season. That's two winning calendar pages of the three completed. A real shame the team sucked ass in May or else the team could really be in the hunt heading into the all-star break. But as for June, here are the players that stood out.

June's Top Hitter

CF Pedro Rosales
It was a two man race this month between Rosales and Pedro Bustamante. Rosales wins out in the end mainly because he had better numbers in a few areas and played more games with more at-bats than Bustamante. After an awful May, Rosales rebounded in June to hit .311/.374/.650 with a team high 8 homeruns and 16 runs batted in. He also scored 17 runs while hitting a personal best for the season 9 doubles. Rosales leads the team by a wide margin in homeruns with 21 now on the season. His next closest teammate has just 9 on the year. His 52 RBI are also a team best. His 1.8 WAR leads all hitters on the Portland team at the conclusion of June as well.

June's Top Pitcher

SP Chelsav Evgrafov
His won-loss totals weren't stellar this month but everything else about him led the way in June. He went just 1-2 in 6 June starts but the record wasn't exactly indicative of his performance. In the two losses he had in June, Evgrafov allowed just 2 earned runs in each. His lone win of the month was a 7 innings shutout outing against Nashville to kick off the month. He ended June with a 3.44 ERA for the month with 21 Ks in 34 innings pitched. His 7 wins and 2.4 WAR are both team bests heading into July.

We have given "HGH" a lot of press since signing with the team because he's fun to write about when he hits meaningful homeruns, but to be honest his play in June was atrocious. He got 35 at-bats in June and managed just 4 hits. He hit .114/.139/.314 in June with 8 strikeouts. But yes, 2 of those 4 hits were of the homerun variety and both came in games that Portland won! So see, that's fun to mention! And both were in games Portland won by a single run.
