Hold My Log - 57.20 - Crashing Down in Week 5

Post by 7teen » Thu Nov 30, 2023 9:44 am

Week 5 of the BBA season was putrid for Portland. And at the same time, not all that unexpected. After a 15-10 April, Portland kicked off the new month with its worst losing streak of the season. After winning 5 of 6 to close April, Portland suffered a loss to San Fernando to kick off May and then traveled to Twin Cities where the River Monsters handed Portland a 4-game sweep. The sweep pushed the losing streak to a season high 5 games.

The offense was a huge problem this week. Portland was shut out twice this week and only scored more than 3 runs twice. One of those was a 4-3 win in extra innings when Aires Penheranda walked it off with a single scoring Jose Hurtado. The other game the team scored more than 3 runs was a 5-4 loss to Twin Cities to close the week. That loss had a similar ending with Twin Cities walking it off versus Kent Grange with a homerun. It was the 2nd time this week that Twin Cities was able to pick up the win versus Kent Grange.

"There are going to be stretches like this" said manager Mons Raider following the finale against Twin Cities. "They're a good team. If it weren't for Nashville, they'd likely be atop the Heartland standings. The good news for us is that after a bad stretch like this, we built up some equity in the first month and are still sitting at .500. We'll have to try and bounce back next week and see what we can do to right the ship."

Next week, Portland continues it's long road trip. The club travels to Louisville for a 4-game tilt with the Sluggers and then, without a day off, head all the way to Hawaii for a 3-game set with division foe Hawaii. Combined, the two squads are 18-43 on the season.

They’re better in postseason. 😔
