Porltland General Manager Chris Wilson was stunned. After years of mediocre draft pools that yielded Portland even less in the terms of talent, one of the best hitters in league history has fallen into the lap of the Lumberjacks with the 5th overall pick. Portland has selected Mynorli Gaajlimitz in the 2057 draft.
"He was our #1 pick all along" Wilson commented at today's draft. "Never in our wildest dreams did we think Mynorli would drop to us at #5. Sure, we knew he was limited by not being able to play a position. He's a true designated hitter if there ever was one. But we think this guy's bat is unlike anything we have ever seen in the history of the league. To say we are ecstatic with the pick might be an understatement."
It does appear that the teams drafting ahead of Portland this season were spooked by Mynlorli's inability to play a position in the field which will make him a one dimensional style of player. Those that are hesitant to Gaajlimitz's potential ability in the league compare him to Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes was a one trick pony for most of his career. Granted that one trick (hitting a lot of singles) earned him a spot in the BBA Hall of Fame with 3,470 such base hits.
Other's point that he's better than Rhodes and it's a wide margin. Some see Gaajlimitz's ability to hit and his eye at the plate as being unlike anything they've ever seen. With scouts rating his contact at a potential 14, and the rest of his ratings line being 5/5/7/12, Gaajlimitz will be a new site to behold at the plate.
"We see the bat like Rhodes but with more pop and the ability to still draw walks" added Wilson on his and his scouts evaluation of Gaajlimitz. "I don't know who to compare him to. What we've seen out of him in high school is unlike anything we've ever seen."
For the first time since returning to Portland, assistant general manager Kate Fiscus spoke on her evaluation of Gaajlimitz:
"He's not fast, can't play the field, but has a good body" Fiscus spoke of the 6 foot tall, 185 pounder from Surprise, Arizona. "He'll hit it in the hole, pound it hard, and hit it often. It's some of the traits I like out of my ballplayers."
Now Portland awaits the challenge of finding out how much money to offer as a signing bonus to what could be a transcending talent.

Oh, Kate. Never change.
And if signing is an obstacle, I'd be happy to trade you cash and prospects so you can sign him and send him my way.
