2059.21 Flight Log-Spring Training Recap 1

Post by Krathan » Tue May 07, 2024 2:01 pm

In this edition of Flight Log, we take a look at the first 10 games of Charlotte’s 2059 Spring Training.

There were finally baseball games to watch as Spring Training opened last week. The Flyers played 10 games, winning 5 and losing 5. Here are some of the more interesting things that happened in those games.

Jim Fleming has been great to start the preseason. In two starts, he has thrown 7 scoreless innings, allowing just 1 walk and 4 hits while striking out 4.

Buwono Mainaky looks like he’s getting another chance to show he should be in the starting rotation. He pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in his Spring debut against Atlantic City.

Jacquot Natta is getting opportunities to start on the mound and in the field so far this Spring. His first pitching performance was a good one. He put up 4 scoreless innings against Montreal, allowing 4 baserunners and striking out 2. He’s also spent time at first base, third base, right field, and designated hitter. So far, Natta is batting .250 with 2 home runs through the first 10 games.

Dallas Dixon has picked up where he left off. He’s hitting .412 in the early stages of the preseason.

Tadataka Yoshikawa has been swinging a hot bat, with a .350 average and 2 home runs.

Kyuichi Mori has seemingly been given the opportunity to play every day this season and he is showing out so far with a .364 average at the top of the lineup.\

Victor Frazier has been hitting the ball hard, including a mammoth 458 foot home run against New Orleans.

Lawrence Stewart is the only catcher hitting over .200 so far this Spring. He is currently sitting at .333.

Flyers manager Angelo Hernandez said he is happy with how his team is approaching Spring Training so far. “The boys are hungry. We had a really good season last year but nobody here is happy we lost in the first round of the playoffs. Being in the postseason. That was great but we all want more. Everybody is working hard right out of the gate. I’m excited.”

Charlotte GM Nathan Garrison was asked about the chances of Jacquot Natta starting the year in the big leagues. “That’s going to take some time to figure out. He looks comfortable up here but it’s only been a few games. He didn’t get a whole season at Richmond last year. It’s possible we decide that he should start there again this season. We’ll see. It’s too early to commit to any course of action regarding Natta at this point. He’s definitely an exciting player and we’re enjoying the opportunity to watch him go out there and compete here in the Spring. If he’s not with the Flyers when we break camp, then I would imagine it won’t be too long until the fans get a chance to see more of him.
