“What’s it Walt?” Mosley said hurriedly. “I have a meeting to get to.”
“I’ll make it quick then. The Long Beach Water project isn’t really worth our time and money anymore. I’ll clean things up and try to keep you out of it.”
Mosley sat down. He had questions. His meeting could wait. “What do you mean? I thought it was working. I thought we were going to go all in this year.”
Walt started pacing around his room as he spoke. “Oh…it’s working. That’s not the problem. You see, it turns out that my contact in Long Beach was…let’s say…popular. It seems that he was working with reps from basically every team in the league…actually, the GBC as well.”
“What? How?”
“Right. Well…what that actually means is that none of us were really getting an edge. We were just destroying the overall talent level of the league.”
Mosley stood back up and loudly exclaimed “Oh, God!”
“Right. Take a look at the scouting reports. You’ll see the vast majority of players have fallen off considerably. It’s a blood bath.”
“Oh God!”
“The league office seems to have gotten wind of what was happening. They’re going to start cracking down on Long Beach Water usage. In fact, they’re going to start talking about the situation publicly. Only, they aren’t going to mention the water. They’re going to refer to it as foreign substance V-25.”
“What do we do?”
“Like I said, we shut it down and move forward as it it never happened. We start to look for a new edge. You can probably get to your meeting now.”
“Right. Umm, thanks Walt.”
“Of course.” And with that, Walt ended the call.
